Snail Mail Collective - Back to School

You might remember that last month I took part in The Snail Mail Collective, well I enjoyed it so much I decided to do it again! This month I was paired with D'Ann from Mismatched Simplicity. D'Ann is a lovely Texan girl with a passion for books, cups of tea, food and travel to European destinations amongst other things!

We found we had lots to talk about, not least weddings, as D''Ann recently got married! (take a look at how gorgeous her vintage heirloom dress is here, and her amazing wedding here) And of course my special day is drawing closer by the second. No need to Panick! I am making progress though, you can see my latest update here.

Our theme this month was 'Back to School'. D'Ann sent me some lovely stationary in an autumnal theme, and some little fox place settings, aren't they cute!? 

D'Ann is also rather fond of Harry Potter, and is still awaiting her acceptance letter to Hogwarts!  She sent me this postcard of a rather little Harry and Ron being studious.  I have never really gotten into Harry Potter, but I think it is something I would like if I did. I enjoy being absorbed into fantasy worlds and can become quite obsessive!  Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones are my favourites, I like all the little details about how their worlds work.  Anyway, I think I am going to give Harry Potter a shot, I'd really like to visit Harry Potter Studios and I guess I will appreciate it more if I know a little bit more about it! So that is definitely on my reading list now!

Snail Mail Collective - My under the sea package

The other day I showed you the awesome package I received from Bev for our Snail mail collective swap. Now that my package has finally arrived with Bev (phew, I was getting concerned it had gotten lost!) I can share with you what I included in her package! Don't forget, the theme was 'under the sea'. 

So I started off with a postcard of The Mary Rose, since this ship was under the sea for quite some time, I thought this was pretty apt! I actually bought this the day Chris and I went to Portsmouth harbour for our first alphabet date.

I found an old book about scrapbooking in a charity shop, and it had lots of pictures of the old fashioned scrap book images. Luckily for me there were a few pages with boats, sea creatures and shells, so I used the pages to decorate my box. Unfortunately I forgot that I would have to put an address on the front of the box and tape it up, which ruined the look slightly. I didn't think that I could just wrap it in parcel paper! Doh! But this was what it looked like before.

Chris is currently playing bass for the very talented Emma Stevens. Her new EP is called 'Underwater', so I thought that would be a nice thing to include. You can have a listen to some of Emma's songs on her website here, and I really suggest you do, I think you will love it! Emma is doing really well at the moment, she has been playlisted on BBC Radio 2 and recently played their Radio 2 Live at Hyde Park Festival! You can also see a video of her playing live (with Chris on bass!) here!

My mum is friends with the children's author Angela McAllister, and I had a feeling she would have a book with an 'under the sea' theme. Luckily I was right, and The Tide Turner was just what I was looking for. I know that Bev has an interest in children's literature, and she also have a baby on the way, so hopefully they can enjoy this together in years to come.

Angela was kind enough to offer to sign the book for us too!

 With my last pennies I bought a little fishy bath toy, I thought he was cute!

Snail mail collective post swap

Last month I signed up for the Snail Mail Collective over on Melyssa's blog, The Nectar Collective. I have always wanted to do a postal swap, and this seemed like the perfest opportunity, with people from all over the world taking part!

I was very excited to be paired with Bev from Linkouture, and we sent eachother several emails getting to know each other which was lovely!

I spent lots of time thinking about what to put in Bev's package, the theme was 'under the sea' which I found quite fun to work with. Hopefully I will be able to show you what this included soon, but I don't think Bev has received it yet, so I'd better keep it a secret until then!

I have, however, received my package from Bev! What a little treasure trove she put together! 

Here is the picture of the beautiful Jiffy bag it all arrived in...

First of all we were all told to include a post card. This is the Harvard University Boathouse which is along the Charles river in Cambridge where Bev lives. So pretty don't you think?

Bev thoughtfully included a magazine full of lovely recipe's, as she knew I liked to cook.

I love how Bev packaged lots of little things up for me, it felt like Christmas!

This is a little brooch that Bev got in Peru when she was on a 5 month trip to South America! I do love little mementos from other countries! She also sent some stones she picked up on the beach at Cape Cod! I was going to do the same thing in my package but didn't in the end, I wish I had now!

Bev included these because she saw I liked making my own cards, I can definitely make use of them! She also included some lovely scrapbooking paper.

I can honestly say this was the best chocolate I ever tasted. It was kind of like the cinnamon chocolate I invented in this post, but way better!
