It was looking pretty sad and bare, and since then I have been working hard to re-decorate. \u0026nbsp;It has taken me ages to find everything that would fit, but I think I'm pretty much there now, so today I've decided to finally do a living room tour!\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nAs I mentioned in my first post, I decided to go for a yellow and grey colour scheme. Eventually I also decided to give it a bit of a botanical\/natural history museum feel, which you might notice a little bit more in the close up photos.\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nThe first things we bought were the sofa, the armchair and the rug. The sofa came from Next, and the armchair and rug were both from Ikea.\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nThe cushions came from H\u0026amp;M Home, except for the little grey ones which I made myself from off-cuts from the curtains (They were crazy long!)\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\nI hunted for quite a while to find an old botanical encyclopaedia which had pretty pictures in it that I could hang, and in the end we found one at an antique shop which I mentioned in\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/wrappedupinrainbows.blogspot.co.uk\/2015\/04\/easter-bank-holiday-happenings.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003E this post\u003C\/a\u003E. I think they make a really nice focal piece in the room, and I was really pleased with the way they turned out. \u0026nbsp;The birds on display are actually made of lego, you can find the kit \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/shop.lego.com\/en-AT\/Birds-21301\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Ehere\u003C\/a\u003E . I think having less heavy curtains has made a huge difference to the room. They cost me £5 each and were both a little worse for wear when I found them. But after a good sanding down and a few coats of grey paint they looked good as new! I needed a very light material for this top, they suggested silk crepe de chine, rayon or crepe. I hunted high and low but I couldn't find a pattern I liked in the right sort of fabric. Then I spotted this sort of Aztec tribal number, and thought it would be perfect! It didn't have a label on it so I'm still not sure exactly what fabric it is, but it seemed to be the right sort of weight and feel.\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\n\u003Cspan style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003EIt has a very bold pattern so I wanted to make sure that it was balanced well once the top was cut out. I'm glad I took the time to do this\u0026nbsp;because I think it definitely made for a better top on the end. Unfortunately he is being brought up by a bunch of pretty gangsta' criminals, so he learns a lot of funny stuff. Then measure your piece of sting to about 75 cm, and thread it through the straw. I love everything about it and it has really made me want to give sewing a proper try. \u0026nbsp; Back last year you may remember I spent a lovely day at \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/wrappedupinrainbows.blogspot.co.uk\/2014\/10\/shopping-at-handmade-fair.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EThe Handmade Fair\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;where I bought a dressmaking pattern from \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/sewoverit.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ESew Over It\u003C\/a\u003E! The pattern was for a rather pretty 1950's\/1960's style dress inspired by Betty Draper from Mad Men. The great thing about Sew Over It, is that as well as the little instruction booklet you receive with the pattern, you can also view a step by step guide on how to make the dress on their blog! There are a couple of tweaks I could make if I make the same one again, just to get it fitting perfectly, but as far as a first attempt goes, I am super pleased with it. I was worried I would struggle and that it would put me off sewing for life!
