Keep it even and as tight as it will go without puckering. I'll explain later why we are doing this.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-fKdxcsynwP4\/VRbDg5J7jqI\/AAAAAAAAGes\/eRa6Pt5birg\/s1600\/doughnut-cushion.jpg\"\u003E\u003Cimg border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-fKdxcsynwP4\/VRbDg5J7jqI\/AAAAAAAAGes\/eRa6Pt5birg\/s1600\/doughnut-cushion.jpg\" height=\"426\" width=\"640\" \/\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003EAdd your sprinkles! You can use whatever coloured embroidery thread you like here, and even beads if you fancy it! Make sure the fabric stays flat and doesn't pucker as you stitch.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-hZnCjRog67g\/VRbDh6IX85I\/AAAAAAAAGeY\/rc8D0-5zmmY\/s1600\/doughnut-sprinkles.jpg\"\u003E\u003Cimg alt=\"doughnut sprinkles embroidery\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-hZnCjRog67g\/VRbDh6IX85I\/AAAAAAAAGeY\/rc8D0-5zmmY\/s1600\/doughnut-sprinkles.jpg\" height=\"426\" title=\"doughnut sprinkles embroidery\" width=\"640\" \/\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003EThe next bit gets slightly complicated. \u0026nbsp;The way we are going to attach the lighter brown felt to make the bottom part of the doughnut, is by using blanket stitch again. But, remember how we stitched around the edge of the darker brown felt earlier? This was so that we would have something to stitch on to, so that we can join both pieces together. \u0026nbsp;So start with the inner circle and do your blanket stitch, hooking it into a stitch on the other piece of felt each time. \u0026nbsp;It's quite important that you try to keep the stitches as even as possible to make sure they match up.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-dSy53SSyqDg\/VRbDgiEnXxI\/AAAAAAAAGeE\/9KoJY3uYvUo\/s1600\/doughnut-attaching-the-felt.jpg\"\u003E\u003Cimg border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-dSy53SSyqDg\/VRbDgiEnXxI\/AAAAAAAAGeE\/9KoJY3uYvUo\/s1600\/doughnut-attaching-the-felt.jpg\" height=\"426\" width=\"640\" \/\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003ETake a look at the picture below to see what I mean. I just used some scraps of fabric to illustrate the technique more clearly to you, the stitches are a lot bigger than you will sew them. \u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-HQe_doH4wnA\/VRvfpYiAPMI\/AAAAAAAAGgk\/jTD5bJ3Z_VU\/s1600\/blanket-stitch-edging.jpg\"\u003E\u003Cimg border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-HQe_doH4wnA\/VRvfpYiAPMI\/AAAAAAAAGgk\/jTD5bJ3Z_VU\/s1600\/blanket-stitch-edging.jpg\" height=\"426\" width=\"640\" \/\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/div\u003ENext you need to stitch the outside circle together in the same way, but once you have done about a quarter of it you need to start stuffing it as you go, so that it is distributed evenly across the whole doughnut. It needs to be pretty densely packed, but make sure your seams don't pop open too far. \u0026nbsp;As long as your stitches were quite small this shouldn't be too much of a problem. I needed a very light material for this top, they suggested silk crepe de chine, rayon or crepe. I hunted high and low but I couldn't find a pattern I liked in the right sort of fabric. Then I spotted this sort of Aztec tribal number, and thought it would be perfect! It didn't have a label on it so I'm still not sure exactly what fabric it is, but it seemed to be the right sort of weight and feel.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv class=\"\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003EIt has a very bold pattern so I wanted to make sure that it was balanced well once the top was cut out. I'm glad I took the time to do this\u0026nbsp;because I think it definitely made for a better top on the end. I love everything about it and it has really made me want to give sewing a proper try. \u0026nbsp; Back last year you may remember I spent a lovely day at \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/wrappedupinrainbows.blogspot.co.uk\/2014\/10\/shopping-at-handmade-fair.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EThe Handmade Fair\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;where I bought a dressmaking pattern from \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/sewoverit.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ESew Over It\u003C\/a\u003E! The pattern was for a rather pretty 1950's\/1960's style dress inspired by Betty Draper from Mad Men. The great thing about Sew Over It, is that as well as the little instruction booklet you receive with the pattern, you can also view a step by step guide on how to make the dress on their blog! (Aside from a project I attempted whilst at Uni, which got halfway finished and then I had to give up through complete confusion!)\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003EAside from the invisible zip, and sewing the shoulder straps together, this dress was actually very easy to make! I really didn't know what to get her, I was stuck. I was pretty sure that my Mum had even gone out and bought the fabric and the special foot for her machine, so I thought it would be something fun she could do, which didn't take up space or make her fat, hurrah!\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EAs I made the purchase I noticed that I was also being entered into a draw to win a sewing machine up to £300. I did win it! It has been on my to do list to take it to a specialist to get it fixed for ages, but I have never gotten around to it, and actually I would have probably ended up paying more than it was worth, so just as well!\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EI will be sad to say goodbye to my Singer, but I got to choose any machine I wanted for under £300, so I decided to do some research. As it turns out, Singer aren't all that hot any more, as people on twitter told me, and the reviews confirmed. I excitedly took her out of her box and sat down to read the instructions. Usually I wouldn't bother with instructions, I would be too impatient, but I decided I wanted to look after Janine, and make sure I was doing everything right! And guess what, I learnt a heck load more than I would have done otherwise!
